About Alan F. Johnston

Alan F. Johnston, a distinguished partner at Murray, Ziel, & Johnston, PLLC, has been an integral part of the firm since 2016. Alan offers a comprehensive legal service to his clients, with an emphasis in litigation.
 
A native of Idaho Falls, Alan’s roots are firmly planted in the community where he grew up near Teresa Bunker Elementary School. He was admitted to the Idaho State Bar in September 2007, after earning his law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law, where he made the honor roll 5 out of 6 semesters.
 
During his time at law school, Alan was a teaching assistant for the Legal Research and Writing Professors, mentoring first-year law students. He volunteered at the school’s Legal Aid Clinic, interned at Hopkins Roden Crockett Hansen & Hoopes in Idaho Falls, and served as a clerk for the Honorable Judge James C. Herndon in Blackfoot, ID.
 
Alan’s legal career began at E.W. Pike and Associates, where he had the privilege of working with the legendary Idaho Falls attorney Ted Pike. He became a member of the firm, which was later renamed Pike Herndon Stosich & Johnston, PA. In 2016, Alan joined Murray, Ziel & Johnston, bringing his vast experience and dedication to the team.
 
Alan has served as the president of the Eagle Rock Inns of Court and is currently an officer for the 7th Judicial District Bar Association, demonstrating his commitment to the legal community.
 
Before pursuing law, Alan attended Brigham Young University – Idaho, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History with minors in Communications and Education. He was actively involved in student government, serving as the director of New Student Orientation, and was a decorated member of the university’s Debate and Speech team, winning numerous national honors.
 
Alan graduated from Idaho Falls High School and continues to reside on the west side of town. He married Patricia Johnston while attending BYU-Idaho, and they have three children: Ryan, Mari, and Fred. Outside of his professional life, Alan is deeply involved in various church activities and enjoys spending time with his family. He is passionate about social activities, running, hiking, camping, and sports.
