Michael Winchester - Attorney/Partner

Mike was born in Idaho Falls, grew up near Ucon. After graduating from Bonneville High School, he served an LDS mission in Brazil. He studies Agricultural Business at Ricks College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from BYU-Provo. Mike’s has extensive work experience in both the legal profession and the military.

As a lawyer, he has worked as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Jon J. Shindurling, a prosecutor in Bonneville and Jefferson Counties, a public defender, a U.S. Army JAG attorney, and now in private practice. Mike’s practice focuses on criminal defense, post-conviction actions, and military administrative law.

Mike understands that all cases are different. Some cases are best served with favorable plea agreement, while others require hard fights in the courtroom. He is well known for his pretrial motion practice and is willing and eager to fight for his clients’ best interest at all stages of the criminal proceedings. He has successfully defended clients in all types of criminal cases from basic traffic violations to murder. Some of the charges include DUI, controlled substance charges, domestic violence, Fish and Game violations, sex offenses, and serious violent crimes up to murder.

Prior to attending law school, Mike served over eight years with the U.S. Marine Corps as an enlisted infantryman and infantry officer. He completed tours in Iraq, onboard a U.S. Navy ship, and in Afghanistan. After law school, Mike joined the Idaho Army National Guard as a Judge Advocate General’s Corps Attorney (JAG). In that role, he has served numerous positions and Mike completed his fourth deployment to the middle east in 2022-2023. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon (2nd Award). In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading military history, and roaming the grouse and chukar hills with his bird dogs.
